We have enjoyed some amazing spring weather over the last several days. Temperatures were well into the seventies with lots of sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. This is of course to balance out the rainy month of March. Our local weather station reported over eleven inches for the month. Needless to say the river was out of its banks and the ponds are beyond bank full!

The Ice is Going in the Maine Outdoors
Last weekend Argy, Noah and I hiked to the top of Maiden Cliff in Camden. The cliff is very plain from Megunticook Lake and I usually point out the cross high up on the cliff face to clients on fishing trips. I also recommend the short hike up the trail for the view; you can see out over Penobscot Bay for some distance and look down on the lake. We hiked up to right above the cross and took this picture looking across the lake back toward the boat launch on Route 105 where I start and end my fishing trips.
Winter Wanes in the Maine Outdoors
A little light snow here this morning but the temperatures and the amount of daylight tell me that spring is well on its way, even though it is still a long way off. We have had a mild February with little snow, with luck March will have a little snow for us.
Cold and Snowy in the Maine Outdoors
Snowing this morning with only a little wind and temperatures in the mid twenties. A very pleasant mid winter day. We needed a little snow to freshen up what we had on the ground. I have been enjoying getting out on snowshoes this winter and have been fortunate to be able to take some time from my responsibilities as the Executive Director of the Maine Professional Guides association each day to get out and enjoy the winter.
November News From Maine Outdoors
The end of November already? The days are almost as short as they get and all of the leaves are off of the trees. Hard to believe that the end of the open water fishing season is here, the month flew by. November was warm and wet with the usual share of foggy days. I was able to get out and fish on Megunticook Lake in Camden several times and enjoyed some great fishing.
Happy Halloween From Maine Outdoors
Snow here last week! Only an inch or so and it was gone as soon as the sun came out. Still a pretty contrast with the colored leaves. This sure has been a beautiful fall for the eyes. I fished on Megunticook Lake in Camden with some folks from Louisiana who had never seen fall foliage and they raved about the scenery at every turn. Reminding me again how fortunate I am.
While it has been a pretty fall it has been cooler than normal. Snow here on the coast and temperatures in the low twenties and teens when I left Libby Camps. Time to get the firewood in!
Fall arrives in the Maine Outdoors
I had the pleasure of taking a couple from the United Kingdom on a day trip last week. The day started with rain showers but they were soon over and the day improved to a crystal clear afternoon with only a few clouds. We visited a list of sights that I was able to choose to provide a sampling of the Maine coast.
The best time of year in the Maine Outdoors
September is without a doubt the best weather of the year in Maine! Today is one of those perfect days we all talk about. No clouds perfect blue sky and a little wind out of the northwest. The temperature this morning was 48 degrees with a high of 75 this afternoon, pretty much a perfect day.
Missed the storm in the Maine Outdoors
I am enjoying a couple of days off this week to rest up and prepare for my next set of trips. Hurricane Bill passed by yesterday. We were concerned because Noah (our oldest son) was riding out the storm in Southwest Harbor aboard the Rachel B Jackson, The schooner he has been working on all summer. The forecast seemed to confirm that all would be well and it was. We were able to talk with him on his cell phone throughout the day and except for the excitement in Acadia National Park he passed an uneventful day in calm seas behind Greening Island on a mooring.
Early Autumn
We have had several perfect summer days in August. Warm but not hot, clear followed by cloudless warm evenings. Mornings dawn foggy and cool but by mid morning it has lifted and the sea breeze is strengthening.
