As of today Argy and I have been married for twenty nine years. Time sure flies when you are having fun! If you had told me that day all of the adventures we would have together I would not have believed it. Two great kids, an beautiful place to live and a couple of amazing careers. What more could anyone ask?
Even though we are a few weeks from the official start of summer, today definitely feels like it is here. This morning’s striper trip was warm with a pretty stiff breeze out of the southwest when I put the boat back on the trailer to come home. Looking out toward Rockland now it is very hazy with thunderstorms in the forecast for this afternoon.
There are a few stripers around but not enough to get me excited yet. The alewives are in the river in excellent numbers. A bountiful food source like that draws a crowd. This morning we saw cormorants by the hundreds, ospreys, eagles and great blue herons fishing with us.
The number of eagles continues to grow I would guess that we saw at least a dozen different birds and as many as three at a time. I always like this early season striper fishing as much for the wildlife sightings as anything. I am looking forward to the large numbers of migrating fish to arrive and expect them in the next week or so.

No longer a secret, Maine is nationally known for bass fishing. Fish for smallmouths in secluded ponds with rocky shorelines. These aggressive fish are acrobatic and tireless. Largemouths lurk in weedy ponds and along lazy stretches of our rivers. Pick your passion bass can be taken with light spinning gear or flies.
