Goldenrod, Asters and Goldfinches

Our great stretch of September weather continues, clear blue skies, cool nights and warm days. A great time of year to get out and fish or explore. Clients from around the country have taken advantage of the great weather this week. Changes in the flowers are noticeable this week. Purple and white wild asters began to show in the roadside ditches this week and goldenrod is everywhere. The young goldfinches are out flying with their parents we have a small flock here in the yard.

Yesterday morning was a bass fishing trip with lots of action some bass but the pickerel were the most active species. They simply could not resist a lure thrown anywhere near the weeds. This trip was in the Saint George River drainage and I was watching carefully for any pike. I did see one smallish pike but all of the rest were pickerel so at least for the short term the pike have not started to take over.

Last evening a couple enjoyed a learn to fly fish trip on Megunticook Lake in Camden.. A very pleasant way to spend a few hours, the wind was still and the surface of the lake was like glass. As it got later schools of white perch came to the surface chasing bait just like stripers. It was great fun on light fly gear. In fact I am looking forward to another still evening when I can do the fishing.
