Forgotten Treasure

Spent yesterday morning on Washington Pond and realized how much I had missed guiding there. In the mid 1990’s I guided many parties on the pond. Fishing for smallmouth bass and perch; in fact the family fishing trips that I offer regularly were developed for that pond.

The public boat launch was made hand carry only, restricting me to my Grand Lake Canoe along with its distance away from where most clients stay, has moved it from my regular waters list. Chris my summer intern is working on a project for school about the introduction of largemouth bass into the pond. We took yesterday morning to confirm their presence and accomplished that goal with ease.

It was great fun to be back on a pond that I simply had not visited for several years. The big news is that the fish were still holding in the same old spots, including a couple of amazing concentrations. On the interesting side the fish were really unchanged in size since I last fished there; at least in part because of a slow growth rate I am guessing.

We boated a few dozen fish and had doubles on several times. Needless to say I will be recommending the pond to clients that are able to fish out of the Grand Laker on bass fishing trips for the rest of the season!
