The rain of the last couple of weeks has made it possible to get the Lund into Round Pond for my family fishing trips. It is great fun to be finding new perch spots and there are certainly plenty of perch to be found. Thursday afternoon I had a family with two teenage sons fishing and they were doing quite well. Both boys had fifteen or sixteen fish and we had a school of perch under the boat a good part of the time. I was busy keeping lines straight and looking in another direction when I hear a very loud splash.
Family fishing Trip
Turtles
As the water temperatures begin to gradually drop turtles spend more time sunning themselves on warm afternoons. On canoe trips and many freshwater fishing trips it Is not unusual to see many of them on various logs and rocks. We see mostly painted turtles which are small but once in a while a large snapping turtle is out where you can see it. I was guiding a couple of fishermen on Monday afternoon when we came on this good sized snapping turtle far up on a large rock.
Family Trips
I like that in the summer I get to go on many family trips from nature exploration canoe trips to family fishing trips. It is great fun to share these moments with families from around the globe. Every trip brings all of that kid excitement and eager anticipation.
Fishing Reports
The last few days have been very busy and enjoyable. I have fished with a number of families and groups of friends. One of the best parts of what I do is being part of life long memories. I do my best to make sure that they are happy ones. One thing that I always tell the parents on a family fishing trip is that they may have started a lifelong interest for their kids and that I may be the standard that every future trip is measured against.
Summer in Maine
The weather this week has been hot and humid, everything feels sticky from the humidity and this morning’s family fishing trip was almost too much under the broiling sun. The perch and sunfish fishing continues to amaze me. After a couple of boys a while back claiming that they had caught 75 fish on an afternoon trip I have been watching the count very closely.
Today a young girl had a counted 26 fish to her credit and we spent a fair amount of time riding up and down the pond making a cooling breeze while looking for a spot to fish in the shade.

No longer a secret, Maine is nationally known for bass fishing. Fish for smallmouths in secluded ponds with rocky shorelines. These aggressive fish are acrobatic and tireless. Largemouths lurk in weedy ponds and along lazy stretches of our rivers. Pick your passion bass can be taken with light spinning gear or flies.
