I usually do not tell fish stories, well OK not online anyway. This story is so exceptional I have to share. I spent the last two days with a father and son from Boston, repeat clients. They fish with flies and cast well enough that I can use my bigger streamers. Our first day together brought several nice fish to the boat including the one in the picture. Not bad but nothing exceptional.
July and August are always the busiest part of my season, most days have me on the water somewhere. All of that time coming and going or just being on the water gets me to see lots of unusual sights. This afternoon I was fishing along the shore of Megunticook Lake in Camden with clients and there on the shore were two fawns (still with spots) feeding as if we simply did not exist. Last week clients and I saw a deer in the water feeding much as a moose does on a different part of the lake.
It came up again yesterday, why do you include licenses in the price of the fishing trip and why do you even bother to fill them out. The second part usually goes “I have been coming to Maine for years and never even seen a game warden”.
